What is MassPEP?

Massachusetts Pre-Engineering Program (MassPEP) was co-founded in 1979 under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth L. Guscott, Nuclear Engineer.  During this era, there were many concerns voiced by industry leaders, university and college leaders, educational support groups, community and social groups, as well asYoung student professional and technical organizations on how to increase the number of underrepresented groups in science and engineering programs.

MassPEP structured programs to reach out to minority and under representative students in high school. These programs fostered student achievement by providing activities that promoted academic success, leadership ability, and self-confidence.  These students were motivated to achieve in science and math by engaging in hands-on activities and projects.

Students from more than twelve high schools in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, and Charlestown participated in core programs that led to careers in engineering, science and technology.  Scholarships were provided to many students.  MassPEP also offered training for the teachers in the programs.
